A Day to Aim Fundraising Goals High
The International Day of Charity was officially adopted by the United Nations in 2015, they chose the day September 5th in memory of the death of Mother Teresa. Since then the day has become a worldwide day of donation to non-profit organizations and NGO. This big day is approaching fast, so mark your calendars and make a plan to give and accept donations.
You want to participate in the International Day of Charity, but where do you start? Start with preparation. This means:
- Check your website. Make sure it’s running smoothly, your content and calendar is all up to date, and everything aesthetically looks good. You also want to make sure you have no broken links, 404 errors make people stop what they’re doing and go to another website.
- Plan your donation requests. Can you put something about your organization or goal in the newspaper? Did you announce your goal for the day on your social media? You need to make sure you know exactly how, when and where you’re going to bring awareness to your goals. If you don’t let them know you’re fundraising then they won’t donate.
- If you’re able to hold an in person fundraiser event, then ask news outlets about media coverage. Everyone loves a news story about good will. See if you can get someone to cover your event.
If you have a non-profit already or want to start one, just know that there are resources to help you plan for large scale events like this. Leadership and team members are often too busy to be able to add planning another event or campaign, but luckily there are professionals that are able to help. Companies like BryteBridge Nonprofit Solutions offer services to help your nonprofit paperwork so that you can get started on the right foot, or help you with grant writing and fundraising. They also have a team to help plan your big campaign.
The clock is ticking, and International Day of Charity is almost here, but don’t worry if you don’t have the resources to put together a campaign in time. The next big fundraising opportunity to bring awareness to your cause and help boost your donations is right around the corner. The entire month of November is non-profit awareness month, if that’s too much there’s also Giving Tuesday (the Tuesday following Thanksgiving). Your organization might focus on a certain industry that has their own day that you can participate in, or you have plenty of time now to plan for June 5th National Nonprofit Awareness Day.
Many nonprofit organizations report that around 50% of their annual donations come from November and December, so being prepared for donation season is one of the keys to a successful fundraising season. International Charity Day is right around the corner so make sure your organization is prepared for your next big day of giving.
“It’s not how much we give but how much love we put into giving.”
